Laundry Recipe

Hello everyone, today we talk about laundry !

First time I questioned myself about laundry is because it's so expensive !!!

40-50 washes => from 7 up to 15€ or more. It depends on the brands and if it is powder, liquid, dose, tablets...

What are the dangerous compositions ?

-Rhodamine B dye : irritant suspected of being a probable carcinogen

-The Isothiazolinones for allergy risk, linaol, geraniol, citronellol, limonene which are allergenic fragrances

-Irritating and sensitizing enzymes toxic to the respiratory tract and aquatic organisms are included in the compositions

-Sillicones and many non-biodegradable elements are also in it

-Surfactants derived from fossil raw materials (petrochemicals and mineral chemistry), which exhibit low and slow biodegradability and which can be toxic to the environment

-The « Anti-lime » : Phosphates, which result in the proliferation of algae which causes the impoverishment, then the death of aquatic ecosystems.

Phosphonates and polycarboxylates, not or only slightly biodegradable.

EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) and NTA (nitrilotriacetic acid), not very biodegradable, they release heavy metals present in the sediments, which can contaminate the food chain and drinking water.

-Chlorinated whiteners

-Synthetic fragrances

-And more...

So, tested and approved by myself, I present to you THE HOMEMADE LAUNDRY RECIPE :

(of course everything was bought in unpackaged store for remove waste)

-1L of water

-30g of green Marseille soap shavings ==> 0,24€ (8€/kg)

-20g of liquid black soap ==> 0,13€ (6,73€/l)

-1 table spoon of bicarbonate ==> 0,11€ (3,60€/kg)

-20 drops of lavander or lemon essential oil for the scent==>0,28€ (3,50€/10ml=250drops)

In 1L of hot water mix Marseille soap and liquid black soap and the bicarbonate.

Let it melt, let it cool and with the help of a funnel put the laundry in an old container or glass bottle.

Add the drops of essential oil and THAT'S IT !

You can put 2 or 3 bottle caps in your washing machine:) Of course you can make 2, 3 or 4 liters at the same time and multiply the dosages accordingly. And it's perfect for your children's clothes too !

Total= 0,76€/L I think it is the cheapest detergent ever^^

Regarding the fabric softener, you can use a little white vinegar instead, don't worry your laundry will not smell vinegar :) It will remove limestone from your washing machine.

There is laundry recipes with the ashes of your fireplace or with ivy too. Take a look on internet ;)

Hi Florence, Thanks a lot for your trick, I'll try to make my own laundry with your recipe. By the way, since January I'm buying my laundry detergent from "Spring" which is a new brand : https://wespring.com/ . I'm testing it to see how it works and if it is interesting. They really care about plastic and dangerous composition. You buy 42 doses for 4 month and it cost 16€. It's more expensive than your homemade recipe... but the smell, the washing and the eco-packaging are really great. What do you think about it ?

About your blog, I really like it. It is clear and ergonomic, the graphic design is elegant and coherent with your blog subject, and…

Hello Aurélie :) Thanks for your comment.

I didn't know this brand but I took a look, they seems concerned by the environment it's true but I'm just worried about the plastic of the doses and some ingredients that are partially biodegradable in their formula. The plastic-free package it's cool but it's waste anyway. So it's definitly better than other of course but I prefer to do it myself without waste and I know what's in it^^

In homemade recipe there is not a lot of smell I know that but it washs, so...I can make some sacrifices on the smell ^^

Have a nice day Aurélie :)
